Dr. Acha Okoko
MBBS, DPM, MSc (Sheffield Hallam University), MSc (Open University), MRCPsych, MIbiol, FMCPsych, LLM (Mental Health Law)

Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr. Okoko has been a psychiatrist for over 34 years. After his undergraduate medical education he proceeded to the United Kingdom where he trained in psychiatry becoming a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1976. He has been a consultant in psychiatry for over 27 years.

He has held senior clinical, educational and management positions in both Nigeria and the UK. For almost 10 years between 1984 and 1992 he was Senior lecturer in Psychiatry at the University of Jos Nigeria. He was also the Head of Department of Physiology and Deputy Dean Faculty of Medicine. He has been a consultant in psychiatry in the UK since 1992, having worked in Northern Ireland, Sheffield and latterly Barnsley. In addition he has held consultant posts in the private sector in the UK.

Over the years he has lectured widely and given seminars to undergraduate medical students, psychiatric trainees and other professional groups. He has worked in a number of clinical settings for example inpatients settings, community settings and secure forensic settings. His special interests in psychiatry are forensic psychiatry in particular mental health law where he holds a postgraduate qualification in mental health law. His other interest is risk assessment and management.
